Anna Sørensen: Untitled. 2010, acrylic and oil on canvas, 90x110 cm
Modus Operandi: Origin: from Latin 'mode of operating', formed by mode 'way or mode' and operari 'work or operating'. Meaning: someone's habits or manner of working, their method of operating or functioning.
Anna Sorensen has in collaboration with Galleri Tom Christoffersen arranged the exhibition "modus operandi". We have invited the young artist Malte Fisker and selected works of Niels Nedergaard (1944-1987). The three artists represents three generations within the abstract painting, each with their distinctive idea of the genre.
By Niels Nedergaard, we show the pattern paintings he was known for after he in 1979 moved to Cairo. In his art, he was inspired by the Islamic ornamentation, and his paintings emerge in rigid compositions with strong bright colors. The triangle is repeated in an almost manic gesture beyond the rectangular picture plane and new forms is created by a play of colors and light. In the meeting between the lines, shapes and colours the plot of Anna Sørensen's paintings is unfolded. Her lyrical compositions balances in a variety of colors and a very dense shape structure. Malte fisker zooms a little farther out and works on larger surfaces in his paintings, where the inspiration from the American "post-painterly abstraction" painters is revealed. In a more subdued color scheme the pictorial space is formed by handheld soft edged geometric shapes that give the images a sophisticated openness.
Thanks to Viera Collaro for kindly lending us the works of Niels Nedergaard
