Gallery Tom Christoffersen presents Anna Sørensen’s solo exhibition: PAINTING 2006
Unimpressed by the major interest in both narrative and figurative painting Anna Sørensen continues to renew her direct form and colour strong vocabulary. A respect for modernist painting is visible in the organising layers of coloured flat patches and lines, which shapes the informal compositions.
The exhibited paintings are noisy and dense. Bordering colour patches and thick lines seems to firmly fix each other instead of overlapping. This tension is accentuated by the colour scheme, as fluorescent acrylic paint lies beneath blocks of opaque and blocks of transparent oil paint. It is exactly the correlation between a variety of forms and use of colours, which makes the dense compositions vibrate and the details flow back and forth from the plane.
The new Anna Sørensen compositions seem to shift between distortion and a tightly kept balance.
Anna Sørensen (b.1968) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Art (Copenhagen) in 1996 and has been a part of Gallery Tom Christoffersen since 2002.
