Lyngby High School, ThyssenKrupp lift shaft

2015 November

At Copenhagen North Lyngby high school, artist Anna Sorensen was after her outline proposal, chosen as the right person to decorate the shaft of height 650 x width 270 cm. She found the project appealing, placing her works in a context where teachers and students spend a lot of time every day.

As the lift is located in the most central room at the main entrance of the school, Anna wants the decoration to make people feel welcome and make them come closer. It should not be loud or dominating, but more an ornament in the room. “From distance, the composition of the 9 round ceramic objects seems as a harmonious and easy to read progress up the home lift shaft”, as Anna expresses. The intention is that the decoration should add an "other thing" to the room - maybe a break from words and learning through books - a visual commenting that may add a new thought or dimension. To Anna, the greatest achivement would be if the ceramic objects could merge into the wall, to become an indispensable and integrated part of its space.

The composition of the ceramic objects was as first tried out by attaching round paper circled onto the shaft. Following each object was affixed onto two angle hooks.
